From today, most SA businesses and public locations will require people to digitally check in to make it easier for health authorities to carry out contact tracing in the event of a coronavirus outbreak.

From then on, you can open the app whenever you need to check in at a venue by opening it, scanning the QR code and following the prompts.

If you don't have the app, or it's not working on your type of smartphone, point your smartphone camera at the code.Once you've done that, you'll be texted a unique code which can then be entered into the website, checking you in.Where are the codes compulsory? Any business or venue which is required to have a completed COVID-Safe Plan must display posters displaying a unique QR code provided by the SA Government.People who refuse to comply with a request to check in may be denied entry.

The businesses captured by the new direction to provide QR codes are those which undertake the following "defined public activities":Indoor public meetings
