Americans have shown they are eager to shop, even during a recession and global health crisis, the National Retail Federation's chief economist Jack Kleinhenz said Monday.A survey by the trade group found that consumers plan to spend about $50 less on holiday food, gifts and more, however.

Retail, the biggest driver of the U.S. economy, has bounced back in recent months — even as millions of Americans are out of work and cases of Covid-19 rise. Retail sales, higher than economists surveyed by Dow Jones anticipated. Clothes and accessories jumped by 11%, while sporting goods, music and books grew 5.7%.
