AMA Vice President Dr Chris Moy says Australian politicians have an “incredible chance to control our destiny” after health measures placed the nation in a positive position regarding the coronavirus.

“We do need to give some credit to our leaders,” he told Sky News but admitted “there’s been the odd mistake”. Mr Moy said given Australia’s island status and low population density, controlling the virus had been much more feasible than it was in other countries.

He urged the public to not “throw this away” when asked whether the mask mandate in Victoria should be removed. “You’d rather be overdoing it than underdoing it in Victoria given what’s happened recently,” he said. “Winding it back seems not necessarily the best idea at the moment.”
