PETALING JAYA: Three new Covid-19 clusters have cropped up around the country, bringing the total number of currently active clusters to 77, says the Health Ministry.

Its director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the index case for the new Lekir cluster in Manjung, Perak tested positive for Covid-19 after undergoing a screening for symptomatic individuals on Wednesday ."The patient was admitted to the Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, and close contact screening found five more positive cases.

Out of this, six in the Lekir cluster tested positive and two negative, while another 136 were still waiting for their results, he said. The index case for the Buntar cluster was also detected following a screening for symptomatic individuals on Thursday and was admitted to Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah in Kedah.

The third new cluster is the Merbok cluster, involving the districts of Kuala Langat, Klang, Kuala Selangor and Petaling, all in Selangor.
