WA could open its border to most jurisdictions because they already meet health requirements, the state’s chief health officer has told a parliamentary committee hearing.

Andy Robertson said the border arrangements of other states was the only thing potentially preventing interstate travel from a health point of view, given they had all gone more than 28 days without community transmission of COVID-19.

Dr Robertson, who faced a parliamentary committee hearing on Wednesday, later told reporters the issue was border hopping between the other states and territories. “We’re generally satisfied with border arrangements. Many of them, in fact, duplicate ours,” he said.“It’s been made abundantly clear that the border arrangements that are put in place in WA haven’t been based on the health advice,” he told reporters.“But obviously, if COVID comes back that may well change,” he told parliament.

Dr Robertson also indicated the state’s phase five loosening of restrictions, which are due to come into effect on October 25, may be delayed again. Travellers to WA are currently required to meet special conditions and are also required to undertake mandatory quarantine.

But you’ll leave the rest of what was said out of the click bait headline.

So other than due to xenophobic politicking, why aren't WA's borders open?

Let’s hope so.
