KOTA KINABALU: Sabah medical facilities and health caregivers are overstretched as the state grapples with daily three-digit rise in Covid-19 cases.

Doctors, nurses and medical support services continue to struggle while authorities scramble to set up “extension” wards outside hospitals.

State Health Department director Datuk Dr Christina Rundi, in a letter to Malaysian Medical Association, requested 60 powered air-purifying respirator, six negative pressure isolation chamber and 22 high flow nasal cannula machines., she said the equipment was needed at six designated hospitals – Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Women and Children Hospital Likas, Duchess of Kent in Sandakan along with hospitals in Tawau, Lahad Datu and Keningau.

Sabah medical frontliners said the situation worsened when medical staff tested positive for Covid-19.
