A public health alert has been issued at a major Sydney hospital as contact tracers work on several COVID-19 clusters in New South Wales.

NSW Health confirmed a nurse at St Vincent's Hospital tested positive for coronavirus. It's understood the nurse provided specialised care to only one patient and had limited contact with a small number of colleagues.

Two Indonesian diplomats, who were exempt from entering mandatory hotel quarantine, have also tested positive to the virus after arriving in the state. The pair underwent self-isolation with their families. The cases come as the crowd limits ease for race-goers – allowing 11000 people to attend, up from 5000 – some of Sydney's biggest racing carnivals. Crowd limits will be eased for The Everest, the Golden Eagle and Randwick's Melbourne Cup celebration.
