The Kelantan Prisons Department has tightened the standard operating procedure set by the Health Ministry for detention centres to curb the spread of Covid-19 among inmates.
Its director, Senior Assistant Commissioner Mat Yaacob, said the SOP covered the Pengkalan Chepa Prison, Machang Prison and a parole detention centre in the state. “As a measure to curb the spread of Covid-19 among detainees following the outbreak of positive cases in Alor Setar Prison, we will impose mandatory 14-day quarantine for all new inmates entering any of the facilities.
“They are not allowed to take visitors during the period and will be isolated from other prisoners,” he told reporters after receiving personal protective equipment , face shields and hand sanitisers from Universiti Malaysia Kelantan here today.At the event, UMK vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Noor Azizi Ismail handed over 2,000 PPE, 2,000 hand sanitisers and 500 face shields. —
