Martin was answering questions in the Dáil today.

Image: Shutterstock Image: Shutterstock TAOISEACH MICHEÁL MARTIN has said that claims about Ireland’s health system being run down are “overly stated” and that it is ready for a potential second wave of Covid-19 cases.

Martin was answering questions from Sinn Féin’s Mary Lou McDonald TD and Independent TD Joan Collins about the government’s decision to move the country to Level 3 restrictions and not Level 5, as Nphet had advised. In response, the Taoiseach said that more ICU beds have been created since the first phase of the pandemic and that more are due to come on stream.

In response, Martin said the reason why ICU bed occupancy is increasing is because the health service is continuing to function, while much of it paused during the first phase of the pandemic.

Gobshite!!

It is run down and he helped do that while minister.

I have been waiting since March to have a hole in my heart closed. But its FINE, the waiting and not knowing is all part of the fun. 🙄

That's called......lies!

Sometimes you just got to say something really stupid - particularly about health

An Taoiseach is a twit.

The dirty imposter.

Don’t like him at all

Says the man who will never be at the mercy of the public health system with his private insurance and ability to pay for any care he needs! He’ll never be waiting on a trolley in a&e for hours, or on a waiting list for a hip replacement for years!!

It’s nothing new.

But we've only 39 ICU beds available & the longest waiting lists in Europe. Weren't we ranked 2nd worst in Europe not too long ago for healthcare. Aren't we the only Western European nation to not have universal healthcare, one of the very few globally... What am I missing here?

Dr Ann Dee, a consultant in Public Health Medicine, says the eight departments are now “throwing in the towel” and giving up on doing “proper” contact tracing. “We can't cope with the volume of work,

Overstated it is not

That's not what the Dr /consultants /nurses are saying

UNDERSTATED, actually...

Ehhhhhh anything with trolleys clogging hallways and gravely sick elderly people sleeping in chairs is ran into the earth's core as far as I'm concerned Monty.

The HSE is your baby Michel.

We all took 'personal responsibility' in the march lockdown which bought you 6 months. And what have ye done: ❌No increase in ICU capacity ❌No checks at airports ❌Overcrowded classrooms ❌Meat plants open ❌DP still running ❌No sick pay ✔️Holiday for TDs and 3 pay rises

So he's saying it's overstated but not that it is not wrong

Has he never visited a public a&e on a normal winter day never mind one in the middle of a pandemic .

Think he is confusing ICU with UCI.

If meehole had the pleasure of waiting in A&E for hours, or a waiting list for a year or so, he might understand

I take it he’s never had his name on a waiting list.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 and yet before the general election Fianna fail were the very ones saying we had a run down health service...what has changed O we have a F/F Taoiseach

Really.

We are one of the biggest spenders in the developed world when it comes to health. It doesn't show.

We had more ICU beds in 2009 than we do now...

Correct it’s not rundown - that’s a copout. The health service is mis-managed and there’s a known scam with doctors bringing patients in and bringing them back repeatedly without reason before they treat the issue appropriately or defer it. stop doctors scamming the system !!!

Nation moves to Level 3 as Cabinet rejects NPHET advice and keeps economy openLast night,in an address to the country, Micheál Martin sought to balance the demands of public health with the need to “protect lives and livelihoods” warned that a return to lockdown “would lead to the loss of hundreds of thousands of jobs”. All we hear since March is, next 2 weeks are crucial. Guess what, nothing happened. Despite protests, open airports, schools, gyms, golfgate, house parties. Numbers are well manageable, no need for causing this hysteria. livingwithcovid Kite flying through biased media. 'NEFHD recommend stage 5 Lockdown.' (Unelected) government are 'shocked.' Mostly negative reaction on social media etc. Surprise, Stage 5 doesn't happen. Naive will praise Mehole Martin & Leo 'Goofy' Thatchar! They're playing with our lives!
