MELAKA: The state is prepared to face any increase in Covid-19 cases, says health and anti-drug committee chairman Rahmad MarimanHe said that Melaka has set aside set aside 78 beds for critical Covid-19 cases and Person Under Investigation and added that the number could be increased to 145 at if the situation warrants.Rahmad added on Tuesday that the state has currently 54 ventilators on standby.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali said that locals can play a pivotal role in ensuring that tourism destinations here are safe by abiding to the safety guidelines and a high standard of cleanliness. "We need to curb the spread of the pandemic," he said, calling on fellow Melakans to help safeguard tourism, which he says is the state's “rice bowl”.
He said the state is highly dependent on the tourism industry and as such, locals need to cooperate with the authorities to ensure high compliance rate of Covid-19 standard operating procedures is maintained at all times. "The arrival of domestic tourists will help industry players to maintain their bussinesses and provide employment to the locals, ” said Sulaiman following a rise in the number of Covid-19 cases to 691 nationwide on Tuesday.
