Victoria’s chief health officer has warned a controversial virus restriction is “open to being extended” following dramatic arrests at crowded Melbourne beaches.

The harsh measure is scheduled to be scrapped on October 19, along with other rules, but professor Brett Sutton said “it’s open to being extended”.

“We can‘t rule out anything at the moment. I cannot with any sense of accuracy tell the Victorian community the exact settings that will be in place once we take the next step,” he said. “If you want to spend summer at the beach, then that will be the time to do that, if we don’t do anything silly or anything selfish right now.”

Police said they were conducting proactive patrols at Altona Beach on Saturday evening when they came across a group not wearing face masks about 6.15pm. Footage of the arrest shows the woman lying on the sand as others hurl abuse at police and try to get in the officers way.

Exact same people blaming everyone else while they’re the reason. Dumb fks

'Daniel Andrews threatens...' - Something is very wrong when in a Western liberal democracy an elected official is able to 'threaten' his own people. This not 'covid-normal'. This is not normal at all. Full stop.

Arrest the moron and let everyone else be, we can't all pay for a minority of fools who are either brain dead or simple.

Dan and Sutton

There is nothing dramatic about it, they arrested somebody and the other people asked what the arrest was for.

Crimes against Humanity - YouTube

Still so many brainwashed fools thinking that people that go to the beach have covid.

This guy in Bathurst was arrested by Australian Fed police and NSW Police working with US H/land security. They found Drugs, guns cash and a chemical substance that forced them to evacuate nearby homes. And yet look! No hand cuffs!

If the premier does it Thanks a lot to all u fukn idiots who just couldn’t help them selves and go to the beach for what for 2 days of nice weather and now u might have ruined it for all the ones who are doing the right thing 😡😡😡

Almost as if VictorianCHO and DanielAndrewsMP want us to protest. Unbelievable

Can we arrest more of the those beach people? None of the people at stkilda on the weekend could afford to live even 10kms from there haha

Melbournites, Victorians FFS march down to parliament in overwhelming numbers & get rid of this clown it's your only hope

‘Excessive’ to shut down ‘every business where someone has a runny nose’ | Sky News AustraliaVictoria's Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton says it would be “excessive and disproportionate” to shut down every business which has an employee or customer displaying mild cold symptoms.\n\n“I wouldn't go so far as to shut down every place that has someone with a runny nose or a cough,” he said.\n\nHowever, he pointed out there are “obligations to make sure that symptomatic people” isolate and avoid public areas.\n\n“There are new workplace obligations in the public health directions,” he said.\n\n“There is an occupational health and safety obligation on the employer to make sure they are not attending that site.\n\n\n But not to shutdown countless businesses that don’t have any employees showing symptoms at all? That’s big of him. But not excessive to make all of regional Victoria wear masks outdoors?
