Some public health experts hope the growing availability of faster, cheaper tests could lead to a new strategy of widespread testing — one that could finally get the pandemic under control.

And some experts say these technologies could finally give the U.S. the ability to adopt a new, more effective testing strategy.

"It is a paradigm shift," Jha says."What I think new testing capacity allows us to do is actually play offense — go and hunt for the disease before it spreads to identify asymptomatic people before they spread it to others. It really becomes about preventing outbreaks — not just capturing them after they've occurred.

That ideal scenario would allow communities to expand regular testing to most K-12 students that are in school ; as well as health care workers, food service employees, cashiers and retail store clerks. The key, however, will be to deploy the tests strategically to ensure the people most at-risk get them, Jha and his colleagues say. This is how they become an effective tool for preventing widespread community outbreaks.

Thursday that allows leaders to assess what groups they want to prioritize — and see how many daily tests they'd need to screen those groups regularly. The tool offers five scenarios: the base and ideal options shown below, as well as three intermediate options, which focus on schools, health care or the economy.

Nuzzo says it remains far from clear how quickly the companies making the new tests will expand capacity.

Not without treatment offered. There are MANY good treatments. You are tearing apart the country by going along with Fauci's Cargo Cult of the vaccine rather than joining the post-internet revolution in medicine. Every day what NPR sez is more farcical than the last.

Biden will have test ramp up X 1,000 and bet this thing under control. What real leaders do like the rest of the world. Only 30 or so days away until we can assure this outcome with a new Biden Precidency.

testing means nothing.

The president has done nothing and allowed 200,000+ to die needlessly and without a care. How can you possibly expect him to change and begin acting like he should have this whole time? TrumpIsANationalDisgrace TrumpLiedAmericansDied

No. In and of themselves, no. We have seen time and time again that the American public is not only resistant to obeying protocols, they downright ignore them period from black lives matter's, to trump rallies, to NFL coaches and University students. Tests won't change behavior

Ohhh yeah def want faster and cheaper than our current flawed PCRs- I mean they don’t even pick up live viral loads or isolate CV ...

A new strategy should involve reliable antibody tests. It’s 100% likelihood that we’re testing people who have already had the virus - over and over again. This is a waste of resources, but more important, those who are immune can/should reenter the economy

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

How does more testing help? Is the strategy to keep testing over and over even if you aren’t sick?

The fake president will never support more testing. And for this reason we all need to vote.

I got tested yesterday and found out the results this morning. Impressive.

It's not a matter of ability. It's a matter of whether or not those in power are willing to act guided by medical science instead of politics.
