Queensland Deputy Opposition Leader TimManderMP says there is no greater example of “politicising the borders” than AnnastaciaMP's recent statements regarding the pandemic.

Queensland Deputy Opposition Leader Tim Mander says there is no greater example of “politicising the borders” than Annastacia Palaszczuk’s recent statements regarding the pandemic. Premier Palaszczuk said if it meant she had to “lose the election, I will risk all that if it means keeping Queenslanders safe”.

The Queensland government has recently come under fire for the process under which border exemptions are given, which saw the AFL’s top brass along with Hollywood celebrities enter the state, but family members wishing to attend funerals or see dying relatives barred. “Most people want to keep our border secure, but they don’t want an inflexible approach, an approach that lacks compassion,” Mr Mander told Sky News host Chris Kenny. “It’s about making sure we have a case by case examination.

'Premier Palaszczuk, you are not the victim': Murray | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Paul Murray says Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk on Friday spoke like a bank teller who’s talking to a customer about a policy they can’t change, not like a premier who’s in charge of the entire executive power of the state of Queensland. \n\nQueensland resident Sarah Caisip, from the ACT, wasn't granted exemption from quarantine to attend her father's funeral in Queensland. \n\nPrime Minister Scott Morrison contacted the premier to seek an exemption out of hotel quarantine for the young woman who would otherwise miss out on her father’s funeral. \n\nThe Queensland premier, however, entered Queensland parliament later on Thursday and declared that she “will not be bullied nor will I be intimidated by the prime minister”. \n\nOn Friday, Ms Palaszczuk said “Let me make it very clear, I don’t make those decisions.”\n\nThe premier insisted the decision to forbid Sarah from attending her Father's funeral was made by Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young. \n\n“It’s rubbish – I love this garbage where 'I’m single handedly the most powerful person in the state, but I’m also a victim' – it’s rubbish,” Mr Murray said. \n\n“Premier, you’re not the victim.”\n\nImage: News Corp Australia “State Premiers” have power & politically close all borders that hurt our people at home who also will have to pay for big lost economy at least 10 years. IF Premiers have power to close all airports there would be NO CAPS issued but NO ONE STRANDED OVERSEAS can go home anyway. However; the caps & border closures are ineffective strategy & wrong action that extensively & politically implemented on people at home & Aussies stranded overseas too long. We’re people, not Wuhan virus. Please don’t feel bad then treat us worse. Many are madly crazy enough. Has he listened to our deputy PM it beetrooter

'It's rubbish': Paul Murray slams Qld Premier's border closures | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Paul Murray has slammed Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk’s border closures saying she has failed to take accountability for the human impact of the tough restrictions.\n\nMr Murray highlighted incidents where families were deprived of a chance to say goodbye to dying relatives.\n\n“She talks like a bank teller who is talking to a customer about a bank policy they can’t change verses a Premier who of course is in charge of the entire executive power of the state of Queensland,” he said\n\n“I love this garbage where I’m singlehandedly the most powerful person in the state but I’m also a victim. It’s rubbish.”\n\nHis criticisms follow a controversial press conference where the Premier claimed the Chief Health Officer was responsible for making decisions on border exemptions. \n\nImage: News Corp Australia AnnastaciaMP She doesn’t care. It’s the Labor way. It’s all about votes not a virus. AnnastaciaMP Perhaps Paul needs to read some real press to understand what's going on out there. AnnastaciaMP Paul Murray is correct! AnnastaciaMP as the leader has an accountability to the protocols. However, she must also be accountable to the laws of common sense which clearly she doesn’t have any. Using the word “human” to describe herself at press conf was HYPOCRITICAL!
