TORONTO -- Sunday's Google Doodle pays tribute to famed Canadian athlete and cancer activist Terry Fox on the anniversary of the first run event organized across Canada in his honour.
The illustration pays homage to Fox’s original "Marathon of Hope" which he started on April 12, 1980, three years after he was diagnosed with bone cancer and had his right leg amputated. Sept. 1, 1980 marked the last day of the Marathon of Hope. Fox died in hospital the following summer at the age of 22.
It is nice to see that google has decided to include Terry Fox on this day as he is a large part of Canadian History. I remember in elementary when we would have dedicated Terry Fox Day runs to celebrate his courage and legacy. He has inspired many Canadians to this day JOUR1720
Legend. Hero. Our greatest Canadian. It’s not even close. 🇨🇦 TerryFox
❤️ This!
I was a lil kid when he did his run, I remember it very well. It blew my mind anyone trying to run across a whole country like Canada, but a person with one leg.. He was a hero! His run ended in life, but he keeps on running in our memories and hearts. 🏃♂️💖🇨🇦
God Bless You, Terry......Canada is so proud of you....🙏🙏🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦❤️❤️❤️❤️
None Braver
A true Canadian hero.
There are 2 people I remember who literally killed themselves by over extending and bringing back their cancer. Terry Fox was one of them and Jack Layton was the other. Rest in peace heroes.
