Scientists from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine investigated the neural pathways behind forms of 'itch relief' including rubbing and scratching.

As part of the study researchers triggered the need to itch in the skin of mice. The researchers then monitored electrical impulses in the spinal cord of mice. As they stroked their paws the itch sensation was relieved, the team discovered.
