After their father was diagnosed with leukaemia five years ago, brothers Omar and Zane Sabre needed a quick way to make cash.
Faced with mounting bills for university and their dad's medical treatment, the brothers invested about $65,000 to launch their accessories business, Maison de Sabre, in 2017 with a single product – a leather phone cover. The first year of the business was chaotic. Omar, 29, was working full time and flying to the Gold Coast each weekend to help Zane, who was running Maison de Sabre from his townhouse in between studying and seeing patients.
"After spending five or six years studying, leaving dentistry can sound quite risky to some but ... [Dad] believed in us from day one," says Zane.
