Breaking 217 more cases of Covid-19 confirmed, no additional deaths

Of the cases notified today, 103 are men and 113 are women. 70% of these are under 45 years of age.

In Northern Ireland, 49 new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed today taking the total number of cases to 7,294.There are currently 18 patients in hospital in the North with Covid-19, with three in ICU. The number of suspected cases has also increased from 70 to 109, according to figures from the HSE. Eleven of these patients are in ICU. Meanwhile, some hospitals are beginning to see increased levels of overcrowding in their emergency departments, according to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation.

The Department of Health has said the expansion is to protect society and the health service from any surge in Covid-19 cases occurring at the same time as a spike in flu infections.
