Mr Cullinane said each of the cancer settings need to be looked at to see what capacity they have and what extra capacity they need. He said 122,724 people were screened for Bowel Check in 2019, compared to 21,821 for the first six months of 2020 and last year 170,000 people were screened as part of Breast Check, down to 38,000 for the first three months of this year.

Mr Cullinane said there is a sense that the services may be able to catch up on cervical check screening, but it is less clear in relation to the Breast Check and Bowel Screen programmes.
