For the residents along Indonesia’s Cisadane River, the coronavirus has brought not just deadly disease, but also a deluge of medical waste: a constant stream of syringes, face masks and hazmat suits floating by

TANGERANG, Indonesia - .

As the virus has spread, medical waste had been piling up at Cipeucang landfill in Tangerang, part of the sprawling metropolis of the capital Jakarta. Like countries around the world, Indonesia has seen the pandemic bring a huge increase in medical waste, an issue that has raised concern in places from Spain to Thailand and India.

Indonesia’s health ministry acknowledged the problem - saying 1,480 tons of COVID-19 medical waste was produced across the country from March through June - and admitted the country lacked treatment facilities, but was working on solutions.

Blame the Government , Huge explosion in wealth and expansion in high rise buildings , without investing in the very basic infrastructure ?

This makes me wonder where South Africa's waste is ending up.

These fucking people. Do they not have bins.

Unfortunately . The rich Arabs should invest in a better condition for our brothers. No . Rather, they buy European clubs so that the Europeans say about them. They are not terrorists, they are civilized

Yhaa

It's chee-sa-da-nay not sisaydane. But yeah it's disgusting. Govt obviously not doing enough. Our people are santuy, chill and relaxed. No sense of urgency in the slightest bit.

This is so sad

Indonesia is filthy. They need a decent garbage collection and disposal system and a mass education campaign. All their waterways and the surrounding ocean and beaches are full of rubbish. It's a disgrace. Indonesia

Oh are you saying “how inconvenient is all this testing! Look what it is doing to some of the fragile ecosystems of the world!”. This is about human beings not being able to dispose of waste dumbasses, not a Covid 19 story. 🙄

Whatever their objective may ben their choice of PPE (type of gloves) needs to be revisited.

Need urgent cleansing

😢

Look at that garbage. And you worry about Western countries increasing CO2 for 0.0001% ?
