The Taoiseach, the Tánaiste and the leader of the Green Party have said it is clear that EU Commissioner Phil Hogan breached the public health guidelines since he travelled to Ireland.

He said this meant he was "not under any subsequent legal requirement to self-isolate or quarantine". — RTÉ News August 25, 2020 Sinn Féin's Pearse Doherty has said EU Commissioner Phil Hogan should be removed from his position and he called on the Taoiseach and the Tánaiste to make clear whether they still have confidence in him.

Mr Doherty said it was now time for the Taoiseach to state whether or not he has confidence in Commissioner Hogan to remain in his post. Mr Doherty also said that last Friday, a spokesman for Mr Hogan issued a statement saying he had completed his quarantine after receiving a negative test, but now the Commissioner is saying that he is exempt from the restrictions.
