JOHANNESBURG - The Eastern Cape Health Department is denying allegations of Personal protective equipment tender fraud. It says payments are made only once service providers deliver.Eastern Cape's Health Superintendent-general, Thobile Mbengashe denies an article that a man who died two years ago, was given a R1-million contract.
"Everything about that report is wrong. First, the case is not a company offered PPE. It is a company that offered work to do at a hospital for minor repairs. That work was done between the company and Public Works on behalf of the department. The owner of the company is alive and is doing the work at Public Works. It was quite bizarre how this was brought across."The country now has just under 90,000 active cases, with a recovery rate of 83%.
