In a statement Saturday , the ministry said Khairuddin returned from his trip on July 7, and his first nasopharyngeal swab taken on the same day turned out to be negative, as did his second and third test.
“Due to Khairuddin failing to adhere to the regulations under Act 342, a compound of RM1,000 has been issued to him on August 7, and he has already paid the compound, ” said the Health Ministry in a statement on Saturday . On Tuesday , Seputeh MP Teresa Kok claimed in the Dewan Rakyat that Khairuddin was in Turkey for an unofficial visit until July 7, but did not undergo the 14-day quarantine rule after returning home.
On Thursday , she claimed Khairuddin had been accompanied on his trip by family and officials, and pictures of him attending various functions, including with other officials and ministers, had emerged on social media. Malaysians were outraged at the perceived double standards being accorded to the minister, questioning on social media whether there were different sets of laws for ministers and ordinary citizens.
