Not so fast. There are plenty of people willing to take part in challenge studies. But there are good reasons why no one has rushed into organising one.

For the malaria trial she had to submit to being bitten by several mosquitoes infected with the malaria parasite. For the other study she drank a solution laced with typhoid bacteria.
