A NSW MP has revealed there have been multiple teenage suicides in his electorate as he warns of the mental health consequences of COVID-19. Ku-ring-gai MP Alister Henskens told Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell he was aware of three suicides by teenagers in the last month alone as well as numerous self-harm attempts.
“Year 12s have had to complete part of their year at home, in NSW they have had their formals cancelled, music lessons cancelled and they are facing unemployment and, perhaps more distressingly, no certainty as to when COVID-19 will be over. “More family tension present as well with tough economic conditions and parents required to work from home.” If you or anyone you know is feeling distressed or needs support you can call Lifeline on 13-11-14 or visit their website lifeline.org.
