NSW Health made a range of serious mistakes in its handling of the Ruby Princess cruise ship, including the delay in sending swabs for COVID-19 testing and in assessing the cruise ship as low risk.
On March 19, 2647 Ruby Princess passengers were allowed to disembark at Circular Quay and travel home but within 24 hours, three COVID-19 tests performed on board had returned positive. "This would have resulted in the identification of such cases on the Ruby Princess. 101 persons fell within the suspect case definition by 18 March, and 120 by the time the ship docked," the report says.

Passenger reveals how Ruby Princess cruise 'ruined our lives' | Sky News AustraliaRuby Princess Passenger Fred Jackson and wife Julie are still suffering serious health complications after testing positive to coronavirus following the ill-fated Ruby Princess cruise. \n\n“We’ve got a lot of breathlessness and we get very tired, we still haven’t got our taste back yet and we’re continually having to seek medical examinations,” Mr Jackson said. \n\nMr Jackson told Sky News he and his wife were subjected to the “trauma” of constant medical checks since disembarking the ship on March 19. \n\n“The doctors have indicated that it will take probably up to 12 months before we get back to where we were before we got on the cruise,” he said. \n\nHe said the medical trauma was worse still for his wife Julie, who had a pre-existing medical condition. \n\nMr Jackson and his wife have joined a class action against the owners of the cruise liner over its handling of the outbreak. \n\n“I’m angry at the cruise line that they went ahead with the cruise… they should have stopped the cruise, but they wanted our money, that’s how I look at it,” he said. \n\n“They’ve ruined our lives.” \n\nImage: Getty Moved on from DanielAndrewsMP have we?
