In a statement, the National Public Health Emergency Team says that of the new cases, 43 are men and 48 are women. 72% of the new cases are under the age of 45.

It brings the total number of cases to 26,929. The number of coronavirus-related deaths remains at 1,774.

Of the new cases 24 are in Dublin, 24 in Kildare, eight are in Limerick, six in Carlow, six in Kilkenny, five in Meath and five are recorded in Clare. The remaining 14 cases are in counties Cork, Donegal, Kerry, Laois, Louth, Monaghan, Offaly, Waterford and Wicklow. "The only way we can effectively suppress Covid-19 across Ireland in the long term is if we act together to protect each other," he said.
