This follows the same decision by presidential spokesperson Khusela Diko over corruption claims in the awarding of a personal protective equipment contract worth over R100 million by the provincial Health Department.
The tender was won by amaBhaca King Madzikane II Thandisizwe, who is Diko’s husband, with confirmation that the Dikos enjoy a close friendship with the Masukus. The provincial secretary Jacob Khawe said that the decision for the officials to step down for the time being followed deliberations by a special PEC meeting which also resolved that they must be investigated by the ANC Gauteng integrity committee.
They have also pressed on Premier David Makhura to ask the Special Investigating Unit to expedite its investigation into the matter.
