KUALA LUMPUR: The lack of personal protective equipment (PPE) and second-rate quarantine facilities are among the grouses raised by medical frontliners dealing with the Covid-19 outbreak in Sarawak, a lawmaker told Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (July 28).

Chong Chieng Jen raised the matter with Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba when seeking clarification on the situation in Kuching which has been declared a red zone recently due to the Hospital Sentosa cluster.

"We always say thank you to them but when they do their job, there is a lack of equipment and when they are infected, facilities are also lacking," Chong said when raising a supplementary question during Minister's Question Time in Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday. "Can't help but wonder why Sawarakians who come back from overseas are allowed to be quarantined in hotels, and this is fully paid by the state government, while we as staff of Hospital Sentosa are being thrown into hostels and colleges that have never been heard before in some secluded area which is poorly maintained," Chong said in reading out the complain.

Earlier, Chong said the lack of PPEs for frontliners in Sarawak had led to them seeking donations from members of the public and non-governmental organisations.
