12 compound notices amounting to RM21,600 were issued while RM5,500 worth of goods were seized.

Penang Health Department environmental health officer Mohd Wazir Khalid said the raid was conducted following a surveillance on the premises by his department.

He said among the notices issued by his department were those under Section 11 of the Food Regulations 2017 for not displaying goods with the labels of the manufacturers, Section 14 of the same regulation for selling expired goods and Section 38 of the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009 for placing food items on the floor.

Mohd Wazir was speaking to reporters after the operation at a mini market in Bertam, Kepala Batas on Thursday. The operation involved a total of 50 members from the Health Department, MBSP’s enforcement and licensing department and the Food Safety and Quality Division of the state Welfare Department.“Three premises which we checked were managed by Indonesians who are from Acheh.
