The possible use of rapid antigen testing is now being explored by the government to help boost efforts to screen patients with the new coronavirus disease.

The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Infectious Diseases has assigned a technical working group to prepare the guidelines on the new diagnostic test designed for rapid detection of the new coronavirus, according to Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles.

Nograles said the antigen testing, which can detect a part of the coronavirus, are expected to give “more accurate” results at a faster turnaround. The coronavirus testing in the country is currently performed using polymerase chain reaction tests and rapid antibody test kits.
