Three more Victorians dead, two of them in aged care homes, as Brett Sutton sees signs Melbourne's outbreaks are being contained

Victoria’s Chief Health Officer, Brett Sutton, says there are signs the lockdown of Melbourne and Mitchell Shire is containing the spread of COVID-19, despite 374 new cases of the killer virus on Tuesday and three more deaths.

Two of the three women whose deaths were reported on Tuesday were aged care residents, health authorities confirmed, as the state's death toll from the pandemic reached 42.Infections were reported in three more aged care homes, with Iris Manor in Ashburton and Mercy Place in Parkville each notifying single cases, while two cases have been linked to Epping Gardens Aged Care.

Health Minister Jenny Mikakos said aged care staff who worked across multiple homes had emerged as a factor in the outbreaks blighting the sector and that the government and operators had reached an agreement to limit the practice.
