As Victoria's COVID-19 cases surge, medical professionals in the state's Intensive Care Units are working tirelessly as the last line of defence to keep the critically ill alive.

"I would love to see if zinc improves the oxygenation levels of patients," urologist Dr Joseph Ischia told 7.30."All we want to see is if people [receiving zinc] require less oxygen when they are in hospital with severe COVID-19 infection, and if they either are able to not go into ICU, or if the zinc helps them get out of ICU more quickly."
