While Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced masks are mandatory in his state, he also continued to blame Melburnians for the second COVID outbreak rather than “accept his own government’s mistakes," says Sky News host Sharri Markson. Premier Andrews declared face masks will be mandatory for residents in metropolitan Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire amid a concerning spike in COVID-19 cases. The rule will be enforced with fines of $200 and will come into place after 11.
Ms Markson said Premier Andrews issued the edict even though Australians have been told throughout the pandemic, by both the prime minister and the chief medical officer, that there was no need to wear a mask. “Well there was a change of tune today,” she said. “And now, it’s not just Melburnians but even Sydney-siders are being told to wear masks”.
