This is the 5th straight day since July 15 that over 1,000 new cases were added to the overall tally.

The country's COVID-19 death toll also went up to 1,831, after 58 fatalities were added. Of the new deaths, 54 were logged from Central Visayas, with 33 happening in June and 21 in July.

The remaining 4 deaths happened within July in 4 other regions. The DOH also said that 36 of the 58 fatalities reported on Sunday were 60 years old and above.The DOH also reported that 89 duplicates had been removed from the total case count, as part of its case information cleaning and validation process.

Given the pace of the number of new cases, a group of researchers and experts project that the total COVID-19 cases nationwide
