With good sense having belatedly prevailed, the policy’s success is dependent on compliance, says health economist Daniel Howdon

On 24 July it becomes compulsory to wear face masks in shops and supermarkets in England. What determines how we can expect such measures to play out? Largely, three things: how confident we can be in the available evidence, the size of the estimated effect among a compliant population, and the degree of compliance.

We are in an almost identical position now, to the one we were in, early March. The ONLY difference is that SOME of the population are behaving like there is an epidemic out there. /1

Hope not

Are ? Aren't,? Gove ? Truss? Swayne? Johnson? Hancock? Cummings?

The mask wearing is mandatory. I wonder what next! It's frightening to see some types of masks being worn. Scary!

Clear messaging from this bunch of liars, opportunists and propagandists? The wind is more consistant

Masks dont work!! And we don't need them.. Studies and scientists are showing it everyday more.. You only want to shut mouths and terrorize people.. virus is an hard influenza and sun kills it. Open your eyes people!!!

Have Boris, Cummings and Gove finally got shares in a mask company? For someone that is easing all rules, and saying we will be back to normal by Xmas, why suddenly masks are mandatory... as always Bozo's advice is as clear as mud...

Which mask are you choosing?

Reading my hard copy x

If it is too dangerous to go to a shop without a facemask then it is too dangerous to go to a shop. This article underlines that - there are too many compliance risks. I'll be restricting my visits to shops to essential supermarket shopping only, until the risk reduces.

Or face the conflict! Georgia Governor Brian Kemp on Thursday sued Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and City Council members amid their efforts to mandate masks and enforce social distancing measures during the coronavirus pandemic.

It looks like the British govt & people want to slowly, slowly dress like in the film 'Demolition Man (1993)'. A kinda hybrid of ninja + burka + darth vader.. I dont care...

An armed guard on every corner would do it. (It would probably give you lot a hard on, as well)

There is a sense of distancing that brings some percentage reduction in virus among the inhabitants.

Govt propaganda mouthpiece fearmongering doom and gloom. The media are totally irrelevant now. We know that whole thing is a scam. The people are awake!

No, it is an absurd and unnecessary overreach. Designed to pander to the irrational fears of a minority.

No, it is a completely unnecessary overreach. Designed to pander to the irrational fears of a minority.

Six months too late. This is where dis-unity takes us.

Except in schools! Good job the virus knows that although it can spread in the air in a shop it wont do the same in a classroom, right?
