. But it’s important to remember that white leaders exposing people of color to fatal illness for political gain is nothing new in this country: White political and business leaders used tuberculosis to try to create white dominance in New Mexico.
Many government pamphlets argued that the New Mexican climate was so healthful that native New Mexicans were naturally immune to tuberculosis. That lie even made it into medical journals and official government reports when it was taken up by doctors, many of whom had themselves come to the territory in search of improved health. Physician Francis Crosson argued that “the native people of New Mexico are singularly free from tuberculosis,” citing the climate as the cause.
At that time, despite doctors’ claims of native immunity, TB was becoming a problem in Mexican, Hispanic, and Native American communities. The state struggled throughout its early years to identify and manage the growing number of TB cases among local New Mexicans as it had no Department of Public Health and wouldn’t until 1919. Without a coordinated public health authority, the state had no public hospitals or testing facilities, meaning medical care was reserved for those who could pay for it.

Who is being exposed to fatal illness right now? NYC blacks? Cali blacks?
Why does Teen Vogue only talk about 'white' transgressions, and none of other races --since you're so race conscious and all? It's as if you want white people to hated, while portraying POC as above reproach🤔🤔🤔
White people are still my favorite culture.

rosenfeldjb You don't know history. Stick to fashion!
oh, I get it now. It wasn't because the dry temperate climate in the southwestern states is beneficial to the health of people with TB. They were sent there specifically to infect the native populations. What F_king juvenile and idiotic drivel.
Teen Vogue is woke af and I am HERE FOR IT ✊🏼
So depressing.
What a crock.
Big if true.
