Victoria's health department confirmed 394 healthcare workers have tested positive to the virus since the start of the pandemic, while others have been forced to isolate due to exposure to infected people.

Nurses and doctors at the coalface of the fight against COVID-19 are becoming increasingly aware of the dangers of their role as a surge of high-risk patients hits hospitals.

"That's the most we've had in such a short time since the start of all this," Ms Adams said. "We were waiting for the first wave, but it never came. We feel like it is only just arriving now." The 22-year-old nurse has only been out of university for two years and already is on the coalface of the biggest health crisis in more than a century.

In the last week, senior emergency physician Stephen Parnis, who works across three Melbourne hospitals, has treated coronavirus patients aged in their teens to elderly people in their 80s. "Every time these numbers rise so does the demands on the health system," he said. "If we continue down this road the number of healthcare workers who are unavailable because of illness or isolation will increase and with that the risks will increase in all hospitals so it’s a very concerning state of affairs."

150 Victorian health workers infected as new cases top 300The state's Chief Health Officer sees positive signs in the infections data, but clusters are growing at nursing homes and other healthcare sites. Amazing that health professionals with access to surgical grade PPE can be infected after taking precautions, yet people argue that those who attended a BLM protest with a dirty old bandana as a face mask could not be at all responsible for an increase in positive results. All the PCR test proves is that you have antibodies of 'a' coronavirus group including the common cold. It's mid-winter, peak flu season, all nurses are illegally forced to have the flu vaccine, the antibodies also can be antibodies developed from the H3N2, H1N1. Think people. nurses should have a living quarter near aged care homes so they should not go out n get infection outside
