Six of Sarawak’s new Covid-19 cases were reported in Kuching and two each in Samarahan and Bintulu.
State disaster management committee chairman Douglas Uggah Embas said he had directed the state Health Department to be prepared to face the second wave of the virus, especially in terms of personal protective equipment among frontliners and to conduct random tests at possibly infected places. “Six of the cases were imported while the other four involved local transmissions,” he said at a press conference. The total number of positive cases in the state stands at 594.
Another case involved a private hospital health worker in Kuching who tested positive for the virus. The patient is believed to have contracted the virus from a colleague who tested positive on July 15.
