An urgent review has been ordered into how daily coronavirus death figures are calculated after it was claimed the current method did not account for people recovering from COVID-19.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock has asked for the examination of Public Health England's data, which states there have so far been 45,119 COVID-19 associated deaths.

A government source confirmed that PHE's current method of calculation means if a person was previously diagnosed with COVID-19 but subsequently died of unrelated causes, their death would still be counted as part of the PHE coronavirus death tally. The review ordered by Mr Hancock aims to sort out the issue and establish the impact on the overall death tally.

This is all lies... You could take the 45k deaths and double it and then you might reach the honest answer of the number of public Covid deaths. The government are lying, YET AGAIN

Yeah, let’s just check the excess deaths, shall we? That should give us some idea of the actual death toll.

Is there going to be an urgent review into how the Govt, including Hancock, have (mis) managed the whole pandemic?

Yes, let's review the lying 👍

LondonUwf Total waste of time and money! 😤😤😤😤😤💥

Guy got attacked by a wild cat, stumbled half dead in front of a train & flung 500feet away, struck by lightning...Coroner put it down to Covid19

Surely he knew how they were counting covid deaths as health secretary?!!

mess from the start

But awkward for the scaremongering media when the Covid deaths drop drastically

How will they find out exactly how many died from the virus and not another health issue or a combination of the virus, deaths related to only the virus will be nowhere near the current total, a lot less I suspect, this is scandalous 😡

Because dying with Covid and dying from are two different things. Every death matters.

For England and Wales only and from 2 weeks ago.
