Hundreds of staff and patients are being tested for tuberculosis after an outbreak at a Sydney hospital. 9News

Hundreds of staff and patients are being tested for tuberculosis after an outbreak at a Sydney hospital.

A case of the potentially deadly disease was detected at St Vincent's Hospital on October 30, and four more patients have been linked to it, the Sydney Morning Herald reported. Three cases were in patients and one infected was a staff member. A fifth person contracted the disease before it was introduced to the hospital."Since becoming aware of the genomic link amongst the patients, the hospital has been working with NSW Health and St Vincent's TB clinical experts to identify this very targeted group of staff, patients and members of the public who may have been exposed," a St Vincent's spokesperson said.

The hospital's TB taskforce identified hundreds of potential contacts and hundreds off staff and patients are being tested.
