The delay in getting children and adolescents back to schools is a"national disaster" that is putting their mental health at risk, say leading psychologists.
Highlighting the low risk to children of Covid-19, they call for social distancing measures to be minimised.In the letter, signed by more than 100 specialists in psychology, mental health and neuroscience, and published in The Sunday Times, they write:"As experts working across disciplines, we are united as we urge you to reconsider your decision and to release children and young people from lockdown.
Absolutely disgusting that the Government and its advisors refused to consider the mental health impact of lockdown. In years to come, lockdown as a health policy will be regarded as a huge failure.

Not just children, what about those, like me, who haven't been able too see anyone in 3mths because we're shielding. This is affecting EVERYONE, but the poor little children.

It's interesting and says a lot, that most of the comments here are aimed at attacking the BBC but not the Government that closed schools, sacked teachers, and made TAs redundant, and, thereby made it even more difficult to help schools reopen..... Don't shoo the messenger....
Schools are open. If the parents have followed government self isolation guidelines then kids are the safest throughout Covid-19.

I fully agree that children need to be back to school as soon as possible. Remember, it's not the schools fault they are shut. Our government closed too late. They then completed a half lockdown compared to the rest of Europe. That is why other countries can open and we can't.
