At least 17 security guards, four cleaners and a doctor have tested positive for Covid-19 at Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital.
But despite this worker's claim, the institution has never been closed for deep cleaning in line with regulations. They also say management has never addressed them about what safety measures have been put in place to protect them. Another nurse said that it was known that one doctor had been reinfected after he recovered from the virus.
“Instead of testing us, they just told us to continue coming to work. How do we do that if we might be sick and passing it on to our patients?” The department's Philani Mhlungu said systems and network lines at the Charlotte Maxeke hospital were down so the institution was unable to respond. He said they had also not received comment from the clinic on staff infections.
