A school in Sydney's eastern suburbs has temporarily closed as NSW Health investigates a probable coronavirus case as police warn they will fine protesters.

NSW's two-week streak of no new locally-acquired COVID-19 cases could be over after a school in Sydney's eastern suburbs was closed because of a probable coronavirus case.

The news comes as NSW Police say they will not hesitate to prosecute anyone who attends upcoming Sydney protests because of COVID-19 health and safety concerns. He told the Nine Network on Friday police would issue move-on directions to attendees and hoped to avoid any escalation to fines and arrests.

"While the NSW Police Force recognises and supports the rights of individuals to exercise their right to free speech in normal circumstances, these are not normal circumstances," Mr Willing said in a statement on Thursday.

School knows they have a case ... and govmnt beating around the bush? 🧐 let me guess, wait until there’s a whole heap that tests positive and blame protestors? Or ... wait until fudging the actual count of cases in nsw ? This is wrong that I’m so suspicious of gvmnt

Better fine that student!

Good. The message is heard. Enough is enough.
