Riot gear, gas masks and military vehicles send a message to protesters, Edwards explained. While officers may think riot gear simply means being prepared, protesters interpret that gear as a signal of the amount of force officers intend to use on them. Whether or not it's their intention, a police officer in a gas mask is sending a signal to the crowd that he intends to use tear gas.

America is a country based on the rule of law. No President, no Congressman, no government, but no law. It was at the heart of our founding. It is a fact that there are indeed many people beating, smashing and looting. Why should the left media turn a blind eye?
I can tell hardly anyone in this article or in these comments have dealt with protests. Despite the popular belief, they are rarely non-violent. And rarely civil. I fear for law enforcement, for the future of our civil liberties and crime in this country.

Tough Guy policing works just ask the people of NYC when Guiliani was Mayor. There were no violent protesting because it was stopped instantly. It was Communist Mayor De Blazio who tied the hands of the Police and looting went viral.
