Nationals Senator Matt Canavan says there is an 'absolute double standard' being exhibited by state premiers who ban Australians going to the footy due to coronavirus concerns but are 'all sweet' with allowing Black Lives Matter protests.

Nationals Senator Matt Canavan says there is an "absolute double standard" being exhibited by state premiers who ban Australians going to the footy due to coronavirus concerns but are "all sweet" with allowing Black Lives Matter protests. As many as 50,000 people are expected to attend Black Lives Matter protests in Victoria on Saturday and thousands more are expected in Sydney on the same day in widespread rallies.

"I don't know what state premiers are doing here, they're certainly being inconsistent," Mr Canavan told Sky News host Peter Gleeson. "If you can't go to the footy, if you can't go to concerts, if you can't even go to church in big numbers at least ... why is it okay to get out on the streets and protest". "There's an absolute double standard here".

All the 🐏 gathering to submit to the commands of black (only black- no diversity here!) leaders. No questioning of their demands allowed please. They also march under the banner of those seeking to destroy the nuclear family - children need to be raised in a collective now. 🙄

But Scomo was cool with 3000 nutters attending an anti-vax anti-5g rally in Sydney. 'It's a free country' + wrongful death and institutionalised racism has a bit more urgency to address than the 2020 premiership mattjcan

Anyone been to a shopping centre lately?

Get your hand off it

Yet in NSW it’s the opposite. Banned for supporting blacklivesmatteraustralia but ok to protest lockdown last week and ok to go to the footy next week!

Ummmm. People are allowed to go to the football and the protest has been banned.

YOU ARE RACIST MATT CANAVAN IF THIS WAS ABOUT WHITE PEOPLE LIKE YOUR SELF YOU WOULD SAY NOTHING, YOU HATE BLACK PEOPLE MATT CANAVAN WE ALL KNOW THAT AS DOES ALL THE LNP GOV MPS.

There’s been double standards alll along. How can it be ok to drive your car to a park and go for a walk but get fined to just go for a drive to get out of the house without getting out your car? Clearly no real covid just a test to see how we behave

There's more than double standards in our country

...and he forgets that Footy is an entertainment option...while Black Lives Matter protests is something far different and unstoppable...even if it was outlawed...

Who are these organisers they should held accountable, after a pandemic were still in

GladysB she didn’t give the go ahead, that’s why it was heard in high court NSW

It’s not a double standard because footy doesn’t matter. blacklivesmatteraustralia peaceful protest / freedom of expression is a fundamental democratic value, nrl footy, particularly watching it, is not a democratic value. It’s a tool used by you lnp to distract from fact.

So his divorce from reality is final, I guess.

AStrongerOZ Clearly, black lives *don't* matter to the pollies allowing these protests ... BLMAustralia blacklivesmatteraustralia

I like when the racists are so obvious like this. It takes all the work out of it.

WMD’s

Different is, is you ban a protest it becomes a riot. If you allow it, you can keep tempers down and social distance. The Footy can wait, peoples anger can not.

It's evolving, only backwards

Thousands to flout coronavirus rules to join Black Lives Matter protests | Sky News AustraliaState leaders and health experts are at odds as they prepare for tens of thousands of people to take part in Black Lives Matter protests across the weekend. \n\nNew South Wales Premier Gladys Berrejiklian has given the greenlight to protesters joining the Black Lives Matter movement, despite stark warnings from health officials it could facilitate a second coronavirus wave. \n\nDespite COVID-19 rules limiting public gatherings to just 10 people, tens of thousands of people are expected to flout restrictions and converge on Sydney’s CBD on Saturday. \n\nPremier Berejiklian urged protesters to maintain their distance from one another but infectious disease experts said this would likely be impossible at a rally, and therefore be “absolutely” a health risk. \n\nVictorian Premier Daniel Andrews has encouraged people to remain at home on Saturday, gaining the support of his state’s Chief Health Officer. \n\n“Now is not the time for thousands of people to gather together, putting your and others’ health at risk,” Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said. \n\nWhile urging people to stay home, Premier Andrews said protesters would not be fined for flouting coronavirus restrictions while at the protest as it could only “inflame” the situation. Hope she’ll be going to court to stop the freaks going to the Hillsong gathering next month. She won’t though. The racist underbelly of the Liberal Party is on full display today. Reminder to just split into multiple groups if numbers exceed 500. Sorry Gladys x
