'I am more optimistic than previously... but clearly the number one priority is keeping the public safe' Health Secretary Matt Hancock on chances of people going on holiday abroad this year Updates:

The daily press conference was held by Health Secretary Matt Hancock, who was joined by Prof John Newton, who leads the UK's testing programme. In order of significance, demographic factors which affects people's susceptibility to coronavirus include: Age, sex, living in a city, and ethnic background.

Other health inequalities, linked to occupation, income and deprivation, also apply and may partially explain the effect of ethnicity Each day, just over 40,000 antibody tests, which can tell whether someone has previously had the virus, are being administered to NHS and care staff. The government wants to roll them out to the public but Mr Hancock stressed that we do not yet know whether antibodies convey significant immunity

After criticism from the statistics watchdog, the government committed to working with the watchdog to publish its statistics in the best way If someone tests negative while isolating due to an instruction from a contract tracer, they must still complete the isolation period. This is because it is possible to test negative while incubating the virus

That FPS though... Damn.

MattHancock I couldn’t be fricking safer right now, 20 cases per day in a population of 687,000 where I live 😤🙄🤦‍♂️

I’m not sure and country will welcome visitors from UK thanks to UK’s appalling infection and death rate.

The numbers are falling but not fast enough! BorisJohnson DominicRaab DHSCgovuk MattHancock

BBCPolitics UK citizens will not be able to go to Greece or Croatia as they are on the banned visitors list.

Not appropriate If anything only brits coming back from holiday should isolate The government needs to make more effort in getting brits to stay and not go on holiday ffs!

BBCPolitics Those people in America who say there demonstrating but actually are looting and thievery is disgraceful these people are using the death of a black man as a excuse to steal and destroy people’s livelihoods it’s outrages hope it’s sorted soon god bless America

This is cover up after cover up..leave stats out, make stats up! Get rid of the advisors that usually as they might tell us the truth. Shorten the briefing, don’t let the media respond and don’t even bother to answer the questions! And an invisible PM! MattHancock GOVUK

This is arrogant and delusional. torylies Why would any country receive anyone from the UK without a 14-day quarantine period, and risk re-introducing the virus? And why would anyone want to come to the UK, sit out a 14 day self-isolation and then risk becoming infected?

Er... doesn’t that hinge on whether those other countries will allow U.K. citizens to enter them?

Momentum again

The R rate is 1 or above. 300 odd deaths today they have lifted lockdown too early

Can’t stand this man 😡

Keep us safe?! We've the highest death rates, with more dying in one day than other countries have had throughout the whole pandemic! The Government have failed the UK people. Oh and where is the world beating APP - has it got lost on the Isle of Wight?!

Hancock is a power mad charlatan

BBCPolitics If he can't understand why people who live in City's, Old folk and minority groups are more likely to die from CV19 WTF does he have between his ears - porridge?

BBCPolitics Which actual countries do they think will accept British visitors?

They'll be stuck in queue waiting to give their vote.

The number 1 priority has never been about keeping the public safe otherwise they would be concentrating on the most serious threat to the public rather than something with a less lethal mortality rate than a bad influenza (and that's with the artificially inflated death figures)

How’s that clear when we’ve had confirmation today that herd immunity was always the plan from the start?🤦

Safe travel as far as you like go to work open the borders plonkers

What an utter...

Oh my! Apparently there were issues of double counting of tests on the way out & again on the way in? So that’s why they are not counting the number of people being counted? Anyone else see that coming? Ffs it’s a good job pubs are shut, otherwise we might be looking 4 a brewery

What was the point of the review into BAME deaths if it does not take into account comorbidities or employment risks and can't be used to make any recommendations? 6 weeks wasted- more BAME lives risked BlackLivesMatter

Glad to finally see a BAME journalist asking questions about BAME issues. I'm glad Rhianna pushed the issue on concerns about going back to work. MattHancock 's response to do 'the same but with more emphasis' was woefully inadequate. BlackLivesMatter BlackLivesMatterUK

I’d sooner not bother this year then spend £3500 for a family holiday in Spain while still under any lockdown / social distancing restrictions. Just imagine having to keep apart by or in the pool Not a chance !! NotAHoliday

Bet he goes though.

So if we are going to be allowed to go on holiday can you safely say you are opening the tourism sector of this country also MattHancock

Cancel your BBC tax, remember they funded and turned a blind eye to the most vile pedo in history! Easy to do through thier website.

There you go guys, stay safe!

BBCPolitics Pathetic!

Since when politicians (or better clowns) decide when and if we can go on holidays?

BBCPolitics Over 300 more reported deaths today. Does this fool really think the rest of the world is going to welcome people from the plague house?

What happened to the 14 day quarantine when you come back?

Clearly it isn't. Committed mass murder in care homes and now through a completely ineffective and unjustifiable lockdown

62000 deaths and the Tories, said 20000 would be a good result, this is what you get with a incompetent government were the ministers got their job because they supported Johnsons Brexit, all promoted above their capabilitys

BBCScotlandNews

As a key worker, I'd like to be paid enough to be able to afford to take my family on a foreign holiday.

BBCScotlandNews Fuck sake it's like he wants a second wave

Translation the people are on to us, the game is up

Keeping the public safe, that’s a new one. How many islands in the world failed to close their natural borders? Just one. Which island is sitting almost at the top of the table for deaths per million of population and overall total of deaths. No prizes for guessing it’s the same.

This man this Govt killed my daughters mother in law and will kill my 25 yr old due to callous incompetence Theyve got their hands on the public purse they are controlling, twisting our democracy What do they care ? Not sorry at all Utter shambles

You’re not led by science, science fiction more like you rocket

Just thought Boo 4 boris tonight

These outputs beggar belief ! The public know it, and UK government get away with it. How does an electorate allow it ?

Whether other countries would want people from a virus rich country, flippantly managed country visiting them is another matter

Please MR Hancock give some reasonable answers to what the country are asking please please

How can you report Matt Hancock got the stats wrong when you can't even report the current UK death toll correctly on the 6pm news today. 36k or 39k Sophie? The irony.

I'm so concerned with this government I do hope we dont get a second spike

BBCWalesNews Is this guy for real no body wants infected brits in their country. No1 priority should be control and lower the infection rate in the UK not fucking off to Spain for a fortnight torytwat

When did keeping the public safe come in, it must ne new

Has anyone ever told diabetic people not to use hand sanitizer, due to the alcohol level in it?...

Hancock half hour, has lost its humour!

BBCWalesNews I doubt anyone would want us. We were all gobsmacked at what was happening in Spain. Now we are No 1 in the world for deaths so they understandably don’t want us

You have my trust Mr Hancock and our household is grateful for all your hard work.

“I am more optimistic but I have shares In vaccines so I’d rather scare the British people until I get my dividends” more like

BBCPolitics Well it depends on what prescription your glasses are just make sure you put the kids in the car otherwise the eye test won’t work

Take one Matt. How about a gap year even?!

What a stupid question! The obsession with holidays does seem such a British thing 🙄 Those who need to travel for business reasons is more important 'going on holiday'.

Hancocks half hour. funny as f**k
