I’m an NHS paramedic and, although I thank everyone who clapped, there are people losing their jobs and struggling to get by. I am paid to do a job by you and that’s enough for me. Thank you to all the kindness to date but it’s time to get back to normal if we can.
As soon as you see “defunded”, sell off the NHS bla bla bla. What a waste of time. Has the health service ever been overfunded I wonder?
I agree. The clapping has become rather meaningless and overly sentimental. Should have been ditched weeks ago.
This has really had its day now. The virus is going to be a risk for a long time to come. Are we supposed to do it every week? It's lost its meaning, especially now you read more people are dying overall in hospitals than the five year average.

I personally text the key workers I know on Thursdays with a love heart or clap emoji, I feel more connected, I sent a text to my elderly neighbour to say I send her a clap for her bravery on cocooning for so long, she rang me crying thank you

Had made this decision already. It’s Tory propaganda to distract from the uncomfortable truth. Protect the NHS - let the elderly die elsewhere. I would stress my immense admiration for NHS staff but it’s ability to cope was politically manipulated.
Why cant we so both, clap and insist on a root and branch change, of proper pay and working conditions. On banning zero hour contracts, on taking the profiteers out of the picture? I will clap despite the government.
Speaking as a carer, I feel uncomfortable with the clapping. I suppose it helps folk assuage their guilt about sitting back and saying nothing while these workers have been underpaid and overworked for years...
