The NHS must ensure cancer-surgery delays do not cost more lives than the number of Covid-19 patients saved,
In some cancers, a three-month delay could make the difference between a tumour being curable or not, Prof Clare Turnbull said.NHS England is already urging people to seek help for worrying symptoms. But by the end of April, cancer referrals had dropped by an estimated 70%. And as normal service resumed, the NHS should prioritise"certain cancer types in particular", Prof Turnbull said. But for others, such as prostate and certain breast cancers, treatment could more safely be delayed.
For every 10 Covid-19 patients whose lives were saved in hospital, four cancer patients could die, according to the ICR study, if all tumour-removal surgeries are delayed by six months. And more than 80,000 of these patients go on to survive for at least five years. And a six month delay could lead to almost 11,000.
bbclaurak ProfKarolSikora has been saying this for weeks. Good that our BBC have caught up at last. By the way, the prof is also a fountain of positive messages AND facts. Why not take a deep breath, a glass of spirit and delve in.
And next you'll be reporting an increase in suicides due to impacts on mental health and no one could've seen that coming 🤔 time to end this lockdown madness now.
bbclaurak Ah but so long as it doesn't mention Covid-19 on the death certificate then we're all good
To busy making tiktok vids
Bit late for the British Bullshitting Corporation to begin to care, you've played a huge part in the disinformation about covid-19 at the request of the government as per the SAGE documents
It's too late to be thinking about this now. The damage is done. We're more interested in paranoia over a virus that affects a specific demographic of the population, wearing masks and telling people that if they leave their house they're killing people.
Well who would of thought 2+2 would equal 4 eh? Take a bow bbc for being complicit in these deaths . You're campaign of fear has done it's job. Well done psychopaths 👏
bbclaurak But with COVID 19 on ALL the death certificates!......biggest lie ever!
What’s Cancer? I was under the understanding that COVID cured Cancer.
Stay at home ...........save lives
bbclaurak Some private hospitals are now being run by the NHS and are doing the cancer ops that the NHS can’t as they fight COVID-19. This hasn’t been highlighted much at all.
bbclaurak No shit 🙄😞
Personally I’ve received fantastic care & attention over the last 5 weeks but the hospital has been empty of non Corona patients so can see there is going to be a problem in the future !
With Corona Virus figures looking better for the time being the BBC have now taken a new line of attack I see, nothing new here.
You're to blame BBC
Oh, I'm pretty sure Oncologists know how the land lies, which makes this statement massively insulting.(or is that what they want - blaming the NHS for governmental failings because private healthcare is sooo much better)
I worry we're going to have a sudden rise in stage 2+ cancer diagnoses in 6 months time
Monthly cancer diagnosis are down from around 30K a month to around 5K.
No shit Sherlock
