Traffic jams and influx of people trying to enter Metro Manila during the first day of the implementation of the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) have alarmed the Philippine National Police (PNP) amid the continuing threat of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac, however, expressed confidence that the people will eventually adjust as days go by.

Banac said that they were also concerned as a number of people flocked to the malls and overstayed inside supermarkets and shops, despite repeated reminder to observe physical distancing. Among other post-ECQ observations, Banac said the PNP noted some challenges in recent disaster response operations in areas under ECQ that were affected by tropical storm Ambo.
