Hopes new test from Roche will allow spread of disease to be better understood

Good morning. I’m Andrew Sparrow, joining the blog for the day. In his Today interview this morning Jeremy Hunt, the former health secretary who now chairs the Commons health committee, said that the in the past the government, including when he was in cabinet, had failed to build up testing capacity.

Funny how when the media actually do their job and report the govt total incompetence. The government reacts and at least promises to act. There’s a lesson here for journalists!

This is just appalling - we're over 3 months into the pandemic. When will they get their act together?

More testing capacity is needed for everything though. Has it been only 1 day in May we've hit the 100k mark again?! Testing and track & trace desperately needed.
